So, this post was going to start with my geeky displeasure at the new adaptation of I Am Legend, and I'm still no less displeased, but I totally just saw Henry Winkler. I popped out to feed my comic book addiction, and I almost ran into him on the stairs at Forbidden Planet. He'd been doing/was about to do a signing for his new book and he was just hanging around. Yeah, so not the most interesting thing in the world, but kind of weirdly random. Then I went to this ridiculously expensive jewelry shop to exchange a ring and the difference on it was two pounds. The woman there said 'you can pay when you pick it up, if you don't have it on you'. I know I look a mess in my old blue Harlem zip up top, parka that simply will not stay on both shoulders at the same time, long ratty scarf and scruffy hair but dude, I don't look that poor do I?
I watched I Am Legend last night on DVD (my grandfather gets Oscar prescreeners, which is cool), and I'm really not getting why there are so many good reviews about it. Firstly, as an adaptation, it sucks. I mean, it misses the entire point of the book and that's fine if it was just taking inspiration from it, like 28 Days Later but it has the same goddamn title! People are going to equate this incredibly average, cliched film with the book now if they ever hear about it!
As a zombie/vampire movie, aside from my book to film issues, it was just... whatever. Neville was an underwritten stereotypical survivor type and just as things started to develop (when he lost Sam) the world's most boring plot device, Anna, showed up and then they basically rushed to the ending with little to no character development at all. Anna was just some 'I believe in God's plan' chick, and really, if everyone around you died or went vamp (and why didn't she and kid? Did I miss that or was it not there at all?) and you were basically alone for three years, you'd have to be stupid or incredibly believing to not at least have some doubts. How did she survive? WHERE'S THE PLOT?
*breathes out* At the very least, it should have been longer, then maybe they could have done more with it. Loads of films run two hours plus, so why did they squeeze it all into an hour and a half? And the ending was overly sentimental and boring. Eurgh.
I also finished BSG on Saturday, and uh... It was weird. I guess 'All Along The Watchtower' has significance with their search for earth 'cause if not... How the hell would they know a sixties earth song? I know it was probably supposed to be dramatic, but when they started speaking the lines, I just laughed, it was fairly naff. Still, the season was generally gorgeous, and they certainly amped up the angst with this one.
Other stuff:
*I wish I could be in LA on January 30th. Cute With Chris live on stage!
(seriously, don't piss this guy off. The results are epic.)
*I have my English L&L retake on Wednesday, and my dad keeps asking me how the revision is going, and I say great. Truth is, I haven't even looked at my notes yet.
*I had a dream about Adrian Pasdar last night. :D
*I've realised that I have an unexpected emo fringe. (and yes, that is a 'save the cheerleader, save the world' t-shirt I have on there. I've also got a Hiro t-shirt, it's for a guy, but seriously, don't they think that girls' want Hiro on their chest - and I mean that exactly the way it sounds.)
